How did 10 thousand rupees turn into a business empire?
Many people, striving for wealth and success, dream of a dizzying rise. And if an instant breakthrough does not happen, most people give up: they take the lack of quick results for ultimate failure.
But real success is achieved not by those who chase instant victories, but by those who persistently, step by step, go to their goal. A striking example of this approach is Ravi Modi, the owner of one of the largest retailers of Indian national clothing — Vedant Fashions.
The early years of the future billionaire
Ravi Modi was born in 1977 in Kolkata. His father owned a small clothing store, where Ravi spent a lot of time since childhood, helping behind the counter and learning the basics of trade.
“The hands-on experience of in-store selling wasn’t just a duty. It was my classroom, where I honed my instincts and developed a deep understanding of people. Interacting directly with customers laid the groundwork for my people skills, enabling me to comprehend their needs and preferences”, says Modi.
Humble beginnings and first steps
At the age of 22, with only 10 thousand rupees borrowed from his mother, Ravi Modi took his first steps in business. He registered his own company and decided to work in the niche of Indian national clothing. Since 2002, the company has been called Vedant Fashions.
The choice for Modi was obvious: having traveled all over India, he was convinced that there was not a single noticeable brand on the market that was entirely focused on ethnic clothing. Seeing huge growth potential, the young businessman decided to master the segment of Indian wedding and festive clothing.
This is how the Manyavar brand was born. Under its auspices, authentic outfits for celebrations were produced and entered the markets of several states at once. The sale of clothing was carried out through multi-brand stores.
Step by step to national leadership
By the mid-2000s, the Manyavar brand had become an integral part of large stores throughout India. But real success came in 2008, when Ravi Modi opened the first exclusive boutique in Bhubaneswar. In the first year alone, the number of branded stores grew to 12.
Since then, Modi has gradually, step by step, expanded the business. Under the auspices of Vedant Fashions, new brands have appeared, covering all price segments of the wedding and festive market.
Today, the company has over 660 branded stores located in over 260 cities in India and about 17 international outlets. And Modi’s personal wealth now exceeds $ 2 billion.
Ravi Modi’s philosophy of success
The billionaire’s approach to business is based on the belief that success is the result of hard work and sound decisions, and not overnight luck. Behind this philosophy lies the wise advice of his father, which sounded at the moment when Ravi had already tasted victory and was about to spend his first large income on buying a Mercedes.
“Pain for a few days, and you can have a lifetime of relaxation, or relax for a few days, and you could have pain for the rest of your life,” his father told him.
These words have become an unwavering guideline in life for Ravi Modi. He refused to buy an expensive car and drove his old car for 15 years, using all the money he earned to develop his business. And thanks to this, he was able to turn 10 thousand rupees into an empire of national clothing, which is admired throughout India and far beyond.
